Iran is negotiating with Azerbaijan to store its gas in the underground gas storage facilities of the country, the Iranian deputy oil minister, Hamid Reza Araghi, said.
Araghi, who heads the National Iranian Gas Company, said that talks are underway with a private company on the issue, Mehr news agency reported Aug. 1.
He did not unveil further details.
Azerbaijan has proposed to Iran to use its underground gas storages for the storage of Iranian gas with subsequent deliveries to the northern Iranian regions.
Last year, Rovnag Abdullayev, president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), said that this scheme is expedient given the fact that Iran encounters problems with the gas supply for its northern regions in winter.
