Germany – Iran’s top trade partner in EU

Germany was the top exporter to Iran among the EU countries during the first half of the current fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 22) with $1.273 billion worth of goods.

The European country stood sixth after China, UAE, Turkey, South Korea and India.

Germany’s exports to Iran registered a rise by 16.5 percent year-on-year, according to the latest statistics released by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

Germany shared 5.4 percent of Iran’s overall imports in terms of value in the six-month period.

European countries held their positions among the top 10 exporters of goods to Iran in the sixth Iranian calendar month.

Besides Germany, Switzerland ($771 million, a 52.9 percent increase), Italy ($644 million, a 25.8 percent increase), France ($671 million, a 39.6 percent increase) and the Netherlands ($491 million, a 19.2 percent increase) were the European countries that took place among the top exporters of goods to Iran in ‎the mentioned period.‎

Iran purchased 60.4 percent of its imported goods during the six-month period from five countries – China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, South Korea, and India.

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. China’s exports accounted for 24 percent of Iran’s total imports in terms of value. During the six-month period, Iran imported $5.696 billion worth of goods from China, indicating a 16.5-percent increase year-on-year.

Iran also imported $4.008 billion worth of goods from the UAE (a 15.2 percent increase), which makes 17 percent of Iran’s total imports value.

Turkey exported $1.678 billion worth of goods to Iran in the six-month period, 25.4 percent more year-on-year.

South Korea and India exported $1.517 billion and $1.355 billion worth of goods to Tehran, respectively.

South Korean exports to Iran indicated a fall by 4.6 percent, while imports from India registered an increase of 29 percent.
