BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 27. The harvesting of 250 million cubic meters of flared gas produced together with crude oil from 10 oil fields located in the west of Iran will be officially started in the next 1-2 months, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Tehran, Trend reports.
According to Owji, the NGL-3100 flare gas collection unit will be put into operation in this regard in the Dehloran district of Ilam province, located in western Iran.
Owji added that 7 million cubic meters of gas will be transferred to the country's gas network with the start of this plant's operation.
The Iranian minister stated that once the plant becomes operational, 1 million tons of ethane per year will be transported via pipeline to petrochemical plants located in southern Iran.
At present, there are 74 oil fields and 22 gas fields in Iran. There are 37 oil fields in the territory of the National Company of Iran's Southern Oil Zones, 14 in the territory of Iran's Central Oil Zones Company, 5 in the territory of Arvandan Oil and Gas Production Company, and 18 in the territory of Offshore Oil Company. There are also 5 gas fields in the territory of Iran's South Oil Zones National Company, 13 in the territory of Central Oil Zones Company, 1 in the territory of Pars Oil and Gas Company, and 3 in the territory of Offshore Oil Company.
To note, Iran's total hydrocarbon reserves amount to 1.2 trillion barrels. Iran can produce 340 billion barrels of this gas with existing technological equipment. Iran can use about 30 percent, while 70 percent remains unused underground.
