Iran boosts electricity production potential

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 22. The electricity production potential in Iran grew by 2,036 MW in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), compared to the previous year, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Energy.

At the end of the last Iranian year, this figure amounted to 92,841 megawatt hours (MWh).

In the reporting period, the electricity production potential of Iran's thermal power plants (TPPs) was 75,643 MWh, making up 81.5 percent of the nationwide electricity production potential.

Meanwhile, the production potential of combined cycle units was 35,795 MW, gas units - 24,019 MW, and steam units - 15,829 MWh.

Besides, at the end of last year, the electricity production potential of the country's hydroelectric power plants was 12,249 MW, meaning 13.2 percent of the nationwide electricity production potential.

At the end of last year, the production potential of Iran's renewable power plants was 1,136 MW, which is 1.1 percent of the country's electricity production potential.

Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Iran's sole NPP, has a production capacity of 1,020 MW, which is 1.1 percent of the nationwide electricity production potential.

The production potential of retail and self-sufficient small power plants amounted to 2,485 MW, representing 2.7 percent of the nationwide electricity production potential.

The production potential of diesel power units in the country stood at 408 MWh, making up 0.4 percent of the country's electricity production potential.

To note, in the last Iranian year, 346 million MW of electricity was produced in the country's TPPs, up four percent from the previous year.
