By Khalid Kazimov -- Trend:

The Fordo nuclear facility is the symbol of Iran 's political independence, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi said.

Salehi added Fordo is the main source for creating nuclear fuel for reactors and asserted that Fordo has a great role in nuclear research, adding that it must turn into Iran 's symbol in world science.

He said Iran is drafting a 15-year nuclear plan, IRNA news agency reported August 31.

"Two new power plants will be launched in Bushehr (city in southern Iran) for which preliminary agreements have been signed with Russia which will be funding the projects as well," Salehi said.

According to the AEOI chief, each of the power plants will produce one thousand megawatts as well as 250 to 350 thousand cubic meters of fresh water.

Talks have also been held with China on building small, 100-megawatt power plants, he noted.

Salehi added aerial inspection of the Iranian land is 60 percent through which is aimed at locating uranium resources.

He added the Islamic Republic has a long-term plan to privatize the nuclear industry.

Iran agreed to have its nuclear activities under close inspection by the IAEA through a deal signed on July 14.

World powers accused Iran of planning to build a nuclear bomb, but Tehran rejected the accusation.

Tehran says its nuclear program follows peaceful, civil aims and will pose no threat to any country.
