Tehran, Iran, May 17
By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:
So far 70 MPs have signed a bill to question the Education Minister Aliasqar Fani, said MP Mehdi Mousavi Nejad.
He noted that the Iranian parliament's board of directors have strongly opposed an impeachment plan, Fars news agency reported May 17.
The board of directors believed that the problems teachers have should be resolved through the current minister, he said.
Iranian teachers have held numerous cases of demonstration in the past few months, calling for improvement of their wages and benefits.
Fani vowed to resolve the teachers' problems, but said that doing so will take time.
Mousavi Nejad said that since the parliament board of directors opposed an impeachment, the MPs decided to question the minister.
If done, this will make the third time that lawmakers posed questions to Fani, thus opening the way for them to move an impeachment.
