Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 6‎

By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iranians' criticism is not limited to economic issues only, said Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.

Rouhani made the remarks during a press conference in Tehran Feb. 6 while responding to a question regarding the recent protests in Iran.

Earlier last month, some groups of Iranians joined demonstrations in a number of cities, including the capital Tehran, Mashhad and Kermanshah to protest against high prices, but the economic protests soon turned into anti-government demonstrations.

Rouhani said pretending that people's demand is limited to economic issues means “closing ears to the people's voice.”

He further said that Iranians have various demands in political and social issues, as well as the issues regarding the foreign policy.

The Iranian president said the administration should listen to the people’s protest voice, adding that his government respects the people's protests and recognizes them.

The press conference was Rouhani’s 12th press conference since he came to power almost four and a half years ago as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Some 105 reporters from foreign media and 112 from domestic media were present at the press conference, held in the presidential complex in Tehran.
