A campaign demanding the release of the General Secretary of the 'United National Movement' party Vano Merabishvili is beginning in Tbilisi.
The first huge banner reading 'Freedom to Vano Merabishvili' appeared on the façade of the head office of the National Movement on the airport road.
It is assumed that the same banners will also appear in other places.
As previously the deputy chairman of the Corrections Department Nato Gugava told reporters before, Merabishvili stopped the hunger strike, following all the procedures and security measures he received a TV set to his prison cell.
"The request was granted after consideration. According to my information, by that time Vano Merabishvili had already stopped the hunger strike," Gugava said.
Merabishvili was detainedon May 21 and is in custody at the time of the investigation. He is charged on three cases: creating fictitious jobs for supporters of the 'National Movement', embezzlement and misappropriation of funds of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as well as abuse of office in connection with the case of raids on opposition rally on May 26, 2011. According to prosecutors, the investigation of the death of the former employee of 'United Bank of Georgia', 28-year-old Sandro Girgvliani is being completed.
