Kodor Ravine Does Not Shelter Servicemen – Malkhaz Akishbaya

Georgia Materials 30 April 2008 11:50 (UTC +04:00)

Georgia, Tbilisi, 29 April / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia/ Proscribed head of the Abkhazian Government Malkhaz Akishbaya flatly denied the Russian Foreign Ministry's statements about bringing additional equipment and 1,500 servicemen to the Kodor Ravine. "That is disinformation with far-reaching plans," Akishbaya said.

Russian Foreign Ministry reported that additional servicemen were brought to the ravine with an intention to create a bridgehead there, to further strike the Sukhumi.

" Russia by all means tries to aggravate the situation in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict area, and provokes Georgia to commence its military actions. But they can never gain this," Akishbaya said. According to the Head, it is not in the interest of Georgia to launch a military campaign in Abkhazia right now.

Akishbaya said that only the police troops envisaged in agreements are there.
