Former Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia is to be sentenced on Monday. According to the lawyer Malkhaz Velidzhanashvili, the case hearings are scheduled for October 28.
The sentence will be announced on the case of the so-called 'prison riot'.

It should be noted that the former Department of Corrections head , former Defence Minister and former Georgian Interior Minister Bacho Akhalaia, who left the country before the parliamentary elections in October 2012, returned on November 5 and two days later he was arrested. Akhalia was charged with three criminal cases relating to the period of his holding different posts.

Akhalaia was found not guilty in the case regarding the bullying of soldiers, whereas the review of one more case referring to bullying of staff members of the special forces of Georgian Interior Ministry when Akhalia was in the post of Interior Minister, was completed two months ago, but the verdict has not yet been announced.

It should be noted that another accusation was brought against Akhalaia on Friday namely that of connivance of the prisoner in the case of the murder of Sandro Girgvliani. The prosecution alleges that Akhalia created suitable conditions for figurants in murder, therefore abusing his power. Last Saturday, the court determined two months in prison as a measure of restraint.
