Construction of bypass railway in Tbilisi to be mothballed

Tbilisi, Georgia, March 27

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Construction of a bypass railway in Georgian capital of Tbilisi will be mothballed for 18 months.

Georgian Cabinet of Ministers plans to mothball the project on construction of a bypass railway in Tbilisi, until a final decision is made on the plan on moving the railway line from Tbilisi's centre, according to a special statement from the Georgian government.

The project, which was launched in 2010, envisages moving the railway line from the centre of Tbilisi to the city's northern part. It is planned that the new railway line will run at a distance of 10 kilometres from the current one.

Over 70 hectares of land will be released in the city centre for urban development projects, according to the project.
