Georgia is actively working on increasing exports of animal products to Russia, Georgia’s National Food Agency said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the Agency, Georgia has been holding negotiations with its Russian counterparts since 2020 with the involvement of the relevant government agencies and well-known international companies.

The work is also underway to introduce standards and regulations to launch Georgia’s animal products export to the EU countries, the statement said.

“As a result of the policy pursued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, with the measures taken by the National Food Agency to diversify the markets for animal products, Georgian honey has been allowed to the EU market since December 2016,” the Agency noted.

Meanwhile, the Agency has successfully completed talks with Saudi Arabia on launching exports of honey and plant products.

The parties also discussed future cooperation, trade in animal and plant products, cattle and small cattle. As a result, the sides reached an agreement, which will also allow the export of cattle, in addition to small livestock, from Georgia to Saudi Arabia.
