BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plans to continue to support Georgia’s renewable energy development, in line with the Bank’s strategy for Georgia approved in December 2021, as well as through the EBRD Green Cities program, the EBRD official told Trend.

According to the source, Georgia is estimated to have huge untapped renewable energy potential.

“Georgia’s ability to utilize this potential makes the country well-placed to meet the growing electricity demand with renewable energy sources thus contributing to tackling climate change and air pollution – the two of the most important challenges worldwide,” the EBRD official said.

As the source noted, Tbilisi was one of the first three cities to join the EBRD Green Cities program, and one of the first to complete a Green City Action Plan (GCAP) in 2017, while Batumi’s GCAP was prepared and approved in October 2020.

“We will continue cooperation with Georgia under the EBRD Green Cities program, and help Tbilisi, Batumi, and other interested cities to become greener,” the EBRD official concluded.
