BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Georgia is considering development of a new climate and energy project, with the support of the Energy Community of the EU, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

According to the minister, the relevant document should be approved this year in order to bring Georgia’s energy plan in line with the EU strategy.

Davitashvili noted that Georgia and the EU have a lot of cooperation priorities, among which are renewable energy development, direct connection of Georgia to the EU electricity system, and raising the country’s energy independence in general.

Meanwhile, the Energy Community will provide technical assistance to the Georgian National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (GNERC) in implementing reforms in the electricity and natural gas sectors as well.

Georgia joined the Energy Community in July, 2017.
