BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. The consumer price index in Georgia in April 2022 increased by 1.8 percent, compared to March 2022, Trend reports via National Statistics Office.

According to Geostat, the annual inflation rate in Georgia amounted to 12.8 percent in April 2022. In terms of the annual core inflation, the prices increased by 5 percent, while the annual core inflation without tobacco amounted to 5.7 percent.

The annual inflation rate was mostly influenced by price changes for the following groups:

- Transport (21.3-percent increase, contributing 2.6 percentage points to the annual inflation rate);

- Food and non-alcoholic beverages (17.8-percent increase, contributing 5.69 percentage points to the annual inflation rate);

- Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (8.4-percent increase, contributing 0.85 percentage points to the annual inflation rate).

The monthly inflation rate for April 2022 was mainly influenced by price changes for the following groups:

- Food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.3-percent increase, contributing 1.11 percentage points to the overall monthly index change);

- Transport (3.7-percent increase, contributing 0.46 percentage points to the monthly inflation rate);

- Clothing and footwear (4.9 percent increase, contributing 0.17 percentage points to the overall monthly index change).
