BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1. Since 2018, International Fund for agricultural development (IFAD) enhances the resilience of smallholder dairy producers, especially in mountain areas of Georgia, a source in the IFAD told Trend.

The overall objective of the Dairy Modernization and Market Access Project is the rural economic development and poverty reduction by contributing to the modernization and emergence of a competitive, diversified, resilient and sustainable dairy industry in Georgia.

"One of the main components of the project is the Dairy Value Chain Development through innovations and capacity building. Some of the dairy producers who carry out an on-farm demonstration of innovative dairy production technologies and business models are linked to the aggregators," the IFAD says.

According to the agency, profitable linkages between Georgian milk producers and aggregators help to define marketing options in terms of price, product and promotion.

Meanwhile, IFAD allocated $18.2 million, while the total cost of this program is $53.4 million. The implementation of the project is expected to finish in 2025.
