(Civil) - Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on April 5 she hopes crisis in Ukraine will be solved peacefully through holding snap elections.

Officials in Tbilisi are watching closing developments in Ukraine, where President Victor Yushchenko dissolved Parliament on April 2 and called snap elections, thus shattering a fragile power-sharing deal with his rival, Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich.

"President had constitutional right to dissolve the Parliament... I am sure that democratic forces will gain victory in the elections and [hopefully] these forces will lead Ukraine towards correct internal and external policies," Nino Burjanadze said.

She also noted that the current crisis in Ukraine could have been prevented if only Ukraine's Orange Revolution leaders, President Victor Yushchenko and his former Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko, could preserve unity.

"Democratic development of Ukraine is of crucial importance for Georgia," Burjanadze added.
