Egypt state television warned people to stay home Tuesday and avoid what it said could be violent demonstrations, as anti-government protesters poured into the centre of Cairo for what is billed as a "march of a million."
State television, tightly controlled by the government of President Hosny Mubarak, has largely refrained from showing footage of the anti-government protests, DPA reported.
Meanwhile, there were reports of the government trying to organise counter protests, to rally support for the embattled Mubarak.
