Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said he will not step down and vowed to protect "constitutional legitimacy" with his life, dpa reported.

"My life is the price for protecting the legitimacy," he said in a televised speech. "If my blood was the price to maintain legitimacy, then I am ready for this for the sake of this nation's stability."

Morsi promised a series of measures to reach consensus with opponents, including replacing the cabinet.
