( Reuters ) - The Israeli government on Monday approved the release of 450 Palestinian prisoners as a gesture to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas ahead of a U.S.-sponsored peace conference, officials said. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert balked at Abbas's call for the release of 2,000 prisoners in advance of the Annapolis, Maryland conference on Palestinian statehood, expected to be held on Nov. 26-27.
