Israeli soldiers kill Palestinian teenager near Ramallah

Israel Materials 18 April 2009 10:21 (UTC +04:00)

Israeli soldiers stationed at a settlement near the West Bank city of Ramallah shot and killed a Palestinian teenager and injured another, medical sources said Saturday.

They said Muhammad Nwarra, 16, was shot late Friday in the chest and died before reaching hospital in Ramallah. The other Palestinian was shot in the leg and was reported to be in fair condition, dpa reported.

Palestinians said soldiers at the Beit El settlement and military base opened fire at the Palestinians, who come from the nearby Jalazoun refugee camp, without any apparent reason except being in the vicinity of the protected settlement.

However, the Israeli army said the teenagers were throwing fire bombs at the settlement when the soldiers opened fire at them.

Nwarra was the second Palestinian the Israeli army shot and killed Friday.

A 30-year-old was fatally injured when hit in the face by a tear gas canister in the village of Belin near Ramallah. He was taking part in a weekly demonstration at the village to protest Israeli construction of a fence on village land that would separate it from nearby Jewish settlements.
