Israeli police were on high alert Thursday, in anticipation of new attacks on Israelis aimed at derailing renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks set to kick off in Washington later in the day, DPA reported.
Additional security was being deployed in the West Bank, Police Spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said, after two attacks on Israelis, one of them lethal, in as many days, aimed at derailing the peace talks.
A third attack was a possibility, he added.
Hamas, which opposes the negotiations with Israel, has claimed responsibility for both West Bank attacks.
In the first, on Tuesday night, gunmen opened fire on a car with four people, outside the southern West Bank city of Hebron, All four passengers were killed.
The second attack occurred late Wednesday night near Ramallah, when gunmen fired at a vehicle seriously injuring the male passenger and lightly injuring the female.
