( dpa )- Two Palestinian militants were killed late Thursday night during an attack on an Israeli West Bank settlement, and one Israeli police officer was killed in a separate shooting incident in East Jerusalem, Israeli officials said.

Two militants infiltrated the Kfar Etzion settlement in the southern part of the West Bank and tried to stab students at a religious school. Both were killed by local security officers, and two settlers were injured moderately from the knife attack, a military spokeswoman said.

Earlier police said two Israeli border police officers were shot while on patrol near the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem. One died from his wounds shortly afterwards, a spokesman said.

The Israeli Ynet Website said the Al Aqsa Brigades, an offshoot of the Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas , claimed responsibility for the East Jerusalem attack.
