One killed in Indonesian training plane crash near Jakarta

(dpa) - A light training airplane crashed into a house near the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Sunday morning, killing the pilot and damaging the home, police and news reports said.

It was not immediately clear why the small trainer airplane went down at about 7:30 am (0030 GMT) in Pamulang residential area, a district in West Java's Banten province, just outskirt of South Jakarta.

Witnesses told El-Shinta radio they saw a small craft flying at low altitude and suddenly heard a "big bang" when it crashed into a house.

The plane belonging to the Indonesian Flying Sports Association took off from the Pondon Cabe training base airport, about six kilometres from the crash site.

The pilot died instantly and a resident inside the house suffered minor injuries, reported detik.com online news portal.
