Serbia on Friday reacted to the Bulgarian government's recognition of its former province Kosovo as independent with a letter of protest, according to reports. ( dpa )
The decision by its neighbour has dealt " Serbia and bilateral relations a heavy blow," Serbian ambassador to Sofia, Danilo Vucetic was quoted as saying by Bulgarian media.
Bulgaria's move was one that was "not without consequences" for future bilateral cooperation, the ambassador warned. However, he mentioned no concrete measures by Belgrade.
Vucetic was called to Belgrade for deliberations and was due to leave Bulgaria within 48 hours. European Union and NATO member Bulgaria had the previous day become the third of Serbia's neighbours to recognize Kosovo's independence.
