A Czech tourist, who had been reported missing in the Low Tatra mountains in Slovakia since last Friday, was found dead on Monday, Xinhua reported on Monday, referring to Czech news agency CTK .

Mountain rescuers found the dead man in snow some 50 meters from the peak of Durkova mountain, about 1 kilometer from a mountain lodge, Milan Tatarka, from the local Mountain Rescue Service center said.

The man got lost last Friday when descending the Low Tatra mountain range to the Magurka chalet. The mountain rescue service started to search for him after only one of the couple of tourists returned from the hike and reported his friend missing, CTK said.

The rescuers had to interrupt the search for the man several times at the weekend due to bad weather, and their work was complicated by deep snow and the risk of avalanches, the report said.

A total of 14 rescuers continued the search on Monday morning, Tatarka said.

The rescuers will carry the dead body down to the valley by Monday evening, he added.
