Angry protestors shouting "shame on you" and "storm the banks" were involved in minor skirmishes with the police outside the Bank of England during anti-globalization demonstrations in London Wednesday.

Thousands of protestors converged on the central bank in the heart of the City of London as leaders of Group of 20 (G20) nations arrived for a summit on the world economy, reported dpa.

Several hundred demonstrators attempted to break through barriers to reach the heavily-guarded and boarded-up bank building, but were held back by police.

One protest group, calling itself G20 Meltdown, staged "carnival parades" into the City led by effigies of the "four horsemen of the apocalypse" representing war, climate chaos, financial crimes and land enclosures.

It had pledged to "thrust into the very belly of the beast" when the march converges on the Bank of England.
