Suicide bomber kills policeman in northern Caucasus
A suicide bomber attacked a police checkpoint in the conflict-ridden northern Caucasus region Tuesday, killing one policeman and injuring two others, the Interfax agency reported.
The agency, citing the Interior Ministry in Moscow, said the attack took place in North Ossetia, dpa reported.
The attacker detonated his bomb after he had been stopped at a control checkpoint while trying to enter from Ingushetia.
It was the latest violence to hit the region where Islamic extremists are challenging the Kremlin's authority with the aim of establishing an independent "Caucasus Emirate."
