Police in India's southern state of Kerala Tuesday arrested an Islamic cleric in connection with bombings in Bangalore in 2008, officials said, dpa reported.

Abdul Naseer Madani, leader of the regional People's Democratic Party, was arrested at his home in the coastal Kollam district, local police chief Harishita Attalluri told reporters.

The cleric accused the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government in Karnataka state of "framing" him.

Madani is accused of seven bombings in India's information technology hub. One woman was killed and 15 people were injured.

Police said confessions by another suspect linked him with the attacks.

Madani has been charged in the past for inflammatory speeches and is also believed to have links with Islamic militant groups.
