More than 40 people were killed Wednesday when a roof collapsed on a wedding party in the northern Afghan province of Baghlan, a senior police official said, DPA reported.
"A large number of women and children had gathered in a two-storey building for a wedding party in the Jelga district," said Abdul Rahman Rahimi, the provincial police chief.
"More than 40 people, most of them women and children, were killed after the roof of the building fell down," he said.
Authorities blamed the house's poor infrastructure and the presence of a large number of people for the collapse.
At least 10 more people were injured, Rahimi said.
Police rescue teams were dispatched to the remote district.
