Deadly tornado strikes Oklahoma

At least two people were killed in a tornado that touched down in the US state of Oklahoma Tuesday evening, local media reported.

The deaths occurred when a large tornado struck near El Reno, just west of the state's capital of Oklahoma City, dpa quoted the Oklahoman newspaper as reporting online.

The storm likely ranked as a devastating F-4 tornado with winds stronger than 330 kilometres per hour, television forecasters said.

The National Weather Service had warned of the potential for dangerous storms across the state Tuesday, as the southern United States faces an unusually severe spring storm season.

Rescue workers were still searching for survivors in Missouri, where a tornado Sunday left at least 118 people dead.
