Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu arrived in Damascus on Monday to discuss with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad the regional affairs and bilateral relationship, Syrian official news agency reported.

Davutoglu will also meet with Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada al- Sadr and Leader of the Iraqi National Movement Ayad Allawi, who are also in Damascus for a visit, to discuss the forming of the Iraqi new government, Xinhua reported.

"The upcoming period will witness good results that serve the Iraqi interest," said the Iraqi Shiite cleric after his meeting with Allawi on Monday.

Syria had invited al-Sadr to visit Damascus after it invited Allawi in a bid to step up the pace of the dialogue between the different political parties.
