Baku, Azerbaijan, July 28
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
The military coup attempt was directed against Turkey’s statehood and welfare, Ismail Alper Coskun, Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan, said in an interview with Azerbaijani ITV channel July 28.
He added that Turkey will become even stronger following the military coup attempt.
While speaking about a state of emergency imposed in Turkey, the diplomat said that the decision was made according to the law.
“The fact that Turkey declared a state of emergency does not mean that it is an unstable country,” he added.
"The state of emergency aims to quickly and efficiently fight with the terrorist organization, whose members entered a number of structures in Turkey," the ambassador said.
On July 15 evening, Turkish authorities said a military coup attempt took place in the country. Meanwhile, a group of servicemen announced about transition of power to them.
However, the rebelling servicemen started to surrender July 16 and Turkish authorities said the coup attempt failed.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the death toll as a result of the military coup attempt stood at 246 people excluding the coup plotters and over 2,000 people were wounded.
President Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in the country on July 20.
