Turkish defense minister urges US to respect Syria’s territorial integrity
Baku, Azerbaijan, March 29
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
Turkey urges the US to respect Syria’s territorial integrity, said Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Trend reports with reference to Turkish media March 29.
Akar was commenting on the decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Akar noted that the decision to recognize Syrian territory as part of another country is a very dangerous precedent and may lead to negative consequences.
On March 25, Trump signed a declaration recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights during a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
After the signing of the document recognizing the Golan Heights as a part of Israel by the US President Donald Trump, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said that the position of the UN on this issue remains unchanged.
Dujarric stated during a briefing that it is clear to the UN secretary-general that the status of Golan hasn’t changed, adding that the UN’s policy on the Golan Heights is reflected in the relevant resolutions of the Security Council.
