New Istanbul airport serves over 41 million passengers in 10 months

From January through October 2019, the new Istanbul airport served 41,792,679 passengers, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

During the reported period, 10,157,579 passengers were served by domestic flights, while 31,635,100 passengers were served by international flights.

In the reported period, 260,382 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport, 65,401 of which were domestic, while 194,981 were international.

From January through October 2019, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 560,872 tons, of which 79,229 tons were domestic and 481,643 tons were international.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
