BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. An armed man was detained near the site of Donald Trump's rally in California, the press service of local Sheriff Chad Bianco says, Trend reports.
According to the information, the detainee - 49-year-old Las Vegas resident named Wam Miller - was stopped at a checkpoint in a black SUV.
A shotgun and a loaded pistol were reportedly found during the search, and he was arrested for illegal possession of weapons. Law enforcement officials noted that the incident did not affect the safety of Trump or rally participants.
"We may have thwarted an assassination attempt," Bianco said, adding that Miller was linked to an anti-government group and was detained because he had a fake VIP pass that raised suspicions among security at the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, according to the New York Post, FBI sources said the incident was not related to an attempt to assassinate Trump.
