Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was elected chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Deputy Executive Secretary of Azerbaijan's ruling New Azerbaijan Party, MP Siyavush Novruzov told Trend Aug. 27.

Novruzov earlier took part in a congress of the AKP.

He said Davutoglu did not have an alternative.

"The congress delegates unanimously supported his candidacy," Novruzov said.

Turkey's newly elected president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has today resigned as the AKP chairman.
