President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has declared 2017 the Year of Islamic Solidarity in the country.
President Aliyev was addressing a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers Jan. 10, dedicated to the results of social and economic development in 2016 and objectives for the future.
The head of state noted that the Islamic Solidarity Games have a very big significance.
“By holding these Games, we will once again show our power and opportunities, we will demonstrate commitment to our religious values and try to unite the Islamic world,” said Ilham Aliyev.
The president noted that Azerbaijan enjoys great respect in the Islamic world.
Ilham Aliyev said the heads of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation highly appreciate Azerbaijan.
“The Muslim countries, which do not get along with each other at times, also show great respect to us. This is our policy. Our policy is sincere, proper, fair, principled and courageous. Given all this, I declare 2017 the Year of Islamic Solidarity in Azerbaijan,” President Aliyev said.
