Europe leads in Azerbaijan’s top-5 trade partners

Italy remained the leader among Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners in Jan.-Sept. 2015, said the statistical report from Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee.

During the reporting period, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy stood at $2.16 billion, or 14.5 percent of the total volume of Azerbaijan's trade operations, according to the report.

Germany ranked second among Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners with $1.5 billion (9.95 percent) worth trade turnover, followed by Russia - $1.34 billion (8.74 percent), Turkey - $1.06 billion (6.91 percent) and the US - $935.3 million (6.09 percent).

The top 5 foreign trade partners of Azerbaijan remained unchanged in September, compared to August 2015. The share of these countries in Azerbaijan's total trade turnover is 45.74 percent.

During the reporting period, the largest volume of export from Azerbaijan accounted for Italy as well. Products worth $1.8 billion were exported to this country from Azerbaijan in Jan.-Sept. 2015, or 20.51 percent of the total volume of the country's export.

Moreover, the following countries took the lead in Azerbaijan's export: Germany ($1.01 billion, with 11.51 percent share), France ($577.9 million, or 6.59 percent), Israel ($565.05 million, or 6.44 percent), the Czech Republic ($401.35 million, or 4.58 percent).

The top 5 importers of Azerbaijani products also remained unchanged in September, compared to August 2015. The share of these countries in Azerbaijan's total export is 49.63 percent.

The top 5 countries for the largest volume of import from Azerbaijan in Jan.-Sept. 2015 are as follows: Russia ($1.07 billion), which accounted for 16.28 percent of Azerbaijani imports, followed by Turkey - $826.6 million (12.57 percent), the US - $672.3 million (10.22 percent), Germany - $516.9 million (7.86 percent), Japan - $425.9 million (6.47 percent).

The volume of Azerbaijan's foreign trade operations dropped by 35.72 percent in Jan.-Sept. 2015, compared to the same period of 2014 and stood at $15.35 billion.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan's export and import operations totaled $8.77 billion and $6.58 billion, respectively.
