The construction of two thermal and three hydropower plants with a total capacity of over 1,270 megawatts was continued in 2011, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade said at a plenary session on 2011.

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 16 /Trend A.Akhundov/

The construction of two thermal and three hydropower plants with a total capacity of over 1,270 megawatts was continued in 2011, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade said at a plenary session on 2011.

"Large scale work was carried out last year to create electricity transmission lines, substations of high voltage and for the reconstruction of the distribution system" Rasizade said.

Rasizade added that specific pilot projects have been carried out in order to expand the use of alternative and renewable energy. "Experimental area and hybrid-type plant were built in Gobustan area, observationally-control station was set, training center was
commissioned," Rasizade said.

Rasizade said the construction of eight hydroelectric power plants was continued in different regions of the country, construction of a modern plant for the production of solar panels in Sumgayit is nearing completion.
