UN deputy secretary general to visit Uzbekistan

UN Deputy Secretary General, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark will arrive in Uzbekistan Oct. 15, said the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.
Clark is scheduled to hold meetings and negotiations with government, ministries officials during the visit.

Helen Clark will also visit a number of districts of Uzbekistan, including the Aral Sea district, which is in a state of ecological crisis due to the drying up of the Aral Sea.
Clark will also get acquainted with the UNDP projects in the country.

Clark visited Uzbekistan on an official visit in May of 2011. At the time she met with a number of ministers, representatives of the UN in the country, women working in non-governmental organizations, the liberal arts sphere, arts and culture.

Uzbekistan became a member of the United Nations in March 1992. UN Office in Uzbekistan opened in 1993, and since then the organization supports the country in various fields through specific projects at local and national levels.

At present, there are 7 agencies, funds and programs of the United Nations - United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS).
