Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and his Macedonian counterpart George Ivanov discussed bilateral relations and issues of the international agenda within the bilateral meeting in Astana on Monday, the Kazakh President's press-service reported.

"The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in energy, transport, agriculture, youth policy, tourism and pharmaceuticals and defined a package of measures aimed at enhancing trade and economic cooperation," the press-service said.

Moreover, Nazarbayev and Ivanov exchanged the views on the situation in Europe, the Middle East and Afghanistan and issues of energy and regional security, as well as possible consequences of the global financial crisis.

Following the talks, the Presidents adopted a joint statement. This document is aimed at intensifying the cooperation in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Moreover, the Kazakh and Macedonian governments signed a number of bilateral agreements such as an agreement on double taxation avoidance and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments and agreement on trade and economic cooperation.

"I hope that the signed documents will give impetus to the dynamic development of our cooperation. We are interested in joint projects," the Macedonian President said following the meeting.

Moreover, within the meeting with a Macedonian delegation, the Kazakh President invited the Macedonian businessmen to take part in joint economic projects.
