Afghan authorities has reopened the mountainous Salang Pass connecting the capital of Kabul to the northern region after avalanches claimed the lives of 172 peoples last Monday and Tuesday, a local newspaper reported Saturday.

Afghan authorities has reopened the mountainous Salang Pass connecting the capital of Kabul to the northern region after avalanches claimed the lives of 172 peoples last Monday and Tuesday, a local newspaper reported Saturday.
  
"The Salang Pass was reopened yesterday and enabled over 4,000 vehicles including trucks and passenger buses to move from Northern provinces to Kabul," Arman-e-Millie reported in its Saturday's edition, Xinhua reported.
  
Meanwhile, search and rescue operation is still continuing in the mountainous pass which is 3,000 meters above the sea level.
  
The latest natural disasters in the post-Taliban country, including snowfall, avalanches and floods, have claimed the lives of over 200 people across the country over the past 10 days.
