Lim Hong Eng, executive editor of the Chinese-language Shin Min Daily News, is appealing her sentence.
In a plea for leniency, lawyer Subhas Anandan told the Singapore court that Lim was not speeding, intoxicated or on drugs, The Straits Times said.
Her car hit the motorcycle, driven by David Jermais Pattiselano, 70. His Indonesian maid, 24-year-old Melania Melaniawati, was riding pillion.
Melaniawati died, and the accident left Pattiselanno with a broken leg. He now walks only with the aid of crutches.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Der Lim said the fact that Lim did not know she had run a red light and was on a collision course with the motorcycle showed a failure to keep a proper lookout.
She still faces a charge of using a cellphone while driving on the day of the accident.
