Development of non-oil sector represents future of Azerbaijan despite great significance of oil factor in economy: minister

Azerbaijan foresee its future in use of oil profit to develop non-oil sector of economy despite oil factor plays big role, minister of economic development Shain Mustafayev said. His interview was placed at official website of ruling party New Azerbaijan. 

"Oil is not goal for Azerbaijan. Oil serves to ensure stabile economic progress, improve welfare of people, develop other spheres of economy, especially, social sphere," minister said.

Roughly $7.6 billion of total volume of investments directed to major capital fell on non-oil sector. GDP increased 4.4 percent within five months of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008. GDP of non-oil sector increased 6.6 percent within this period, he said.

Minister said that one of important actions towards development of non-oil sector will be state program of social-economic development of regions over 2009-2013. Actions were classified in three stages including country, regions, Baku's settlements and economic regions. Roughly 1,066 meetings are planned to be held in the state program, including 58 of state importance, 40 - over Baku, 968 - over economic regions of the country.

Plan of actions includes improvement of tax and money-loan policy, extension of industrial and agricultural production, actions in ecology and natural resources, communication and transport, power engineering, heating, gas, water supply and sewerage system, melioration and irrigation, social protection, construction and reconstruction of enterprises in education, public health, culture and sport.
