On February 15, Serbia celebrates Statehood Day (Day of the First Serbian Uprising).

"The modern history of bilateral Azerbaijani-Serbian cooperation dates back to 1991-1992., when the two states recognized each other, and on August 21, 1997 formal diplomatic relations were established. The two countries' diplomatic missions at ambassadorial level were opened in Belgrade in March 2010 and in Baku in February 2011, the Serbian embassy reported in its official statement.

On May 2010 Serbian President Boris Tadic made his first official visit to Azerbaijan. This initiated an intensive dialogue at the highest level and the establishment of special relations between the heads of states. The package of six bilateral agreements was also signed, the official statement said.

As of today, there are five active draft agreements in development, covering various areas of cooperation, ranging from law enforcement cooperation and ending with the agreements in the field of science and technology.

In September 2011, Serbian Foreign Minister Serbia Vuk Jeremic visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, the principled position of the two countries for the adoption of the rule of international law principles such as territorial integrity and sovereignty of states once again was emphasized.
