Azerbaijani Opposition Bloc Dissatisfied with Council of Europe Co-chairs

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 May / Trend corr. E.Babayev / Ali Aliyev, Chairman of the Citizen and Development party (CDP) and Co-chairman of opposition Azadlig bloc, stated that the bloc protests against the report developed by the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) Co-chairs on Azerbaijan.

Yevgenia Jivkova and Andrea Herkel, PACE co-chairs on Azerbaijan, will develop a new report on Azerbaijan. The profound of report was discussed in the meeting of Azadlig Chairmen Council.

PACE co-chairs are developing a report on Azerbaijan after they paid a visit to the country in February 2007. The report is expected to be considered in the summer meeting of PACE in June.

Aliyev said that the information, which will be included into the report, will reflect the situation in Azerbaijan incorrectly. CDP Chairman stated that the supplemental information developed by PACE co-chairs stated that the Azerbaijani population is not prepared to set up democracy in the country. However, the report says that the Azerbaijani government is taking step towards democracy.

Aliyev stated that the bloc would develop a document and submit it to co-chairs.
