Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a number of appointments in international organizations.

Turkmen Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Great Britain and Northern Ireland Yazmyrat Seryaev was appointed the representative of the Caspian country to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Turkmen Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Belgium is entitled to represent the country in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

IMO was founded in 1948. It is the intergovernmental organization. It aims to abolish discriminatory actions affecting international commercial shipping, as well as to adopt the rules (standards) to ensure safety at sea and prevent pollution from ships.

The OPCW with the headquarters in the Hague functions since 1997.

The main objectives are to ensure control over compliance with the ban on using chemical weapons, to eliminate its stocks, to promote cooperation in the field of peaceful chemistry, to assist the countries in providing protection against chemical weapons.
