New Chairman elected to Canada-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group

Barry Devolin has been elected as the new chairman of Canada-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group on Wednesday at the first meeting of the group since the May elections to the Canadian Parliament, Azerbaijani Embassy in Canada said.

Barry Devolin has been elected as the new chairman of Canada-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group on Wednesday at the first meeting of the group since the May elections to the Canadian Parliament, Azerbaijani Embassy in Canada said.

An MP of the ruling Conservative Party, Mr Devolin previously visited Azerbaijan as part of a Canadian parliamentary delegation in 2008. The Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group has operated since 2006.

Azerbaijani Ambassador Farid Shafiyev also attended the meeting of the Friendship Group.

He emphasised the benefit of inter-parliamentary cooperation for the development of bilateral relations. Mr Shafiyev stressed the importance of deepening the political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
