New Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa who was sworn in on May 23 underlined the need for strengthening ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, IRNA reported.
He made the remarks after he undertook of his second term presidency for another four year, adding, ˈWe express our warmest greetings to Iran and Iranians.ˈ
High-ranking delegations from 90 countries attended his inauguration ceremony.
Iranian vice-president for international affairs, Ali Saeedlu, heading an Iranian delegation attended the ceremony.
Addressing his taking oath ceremony, President Correa said that his country will continue with its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, in defiance of US-led anti-Iran sanctions.
ˈWe attach a great significance to our friendship with Iran,ˈ he added, noting that his country does not take permission from anybody to establish ties with other countries.
Iran and Ecuador have currently cooperation in various areas including economy, agriculture, industry and agriculture.
